W. Icers Clinch Share Of Ivy Title With Victory Over Princeton Tigers
February 9th, 2010The women’s hockey team had a successful, undefeated weekend consisting of matchups with two conference opponents. Quinnipiac and Princeton both traveled to Lynah Rink and were unable to score any goals on Cornell sophomore goaltender, Amanda Mazzotta. These two shutouts for the goalie set a new University record for number of shutouts in a single season, and contributed to her being named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. Read More

Super Sunday: The Way It Should Be
February 9th, 2010This almost became another column devoted to the greatness that is Cornell basketball 2010 style. Almost. Writing about the newly-ranked No. 22 team in the nation would have been a fairly simple task. Just ask the sports writers from any of the other Ivy League schools. Keep in mind Cornell has not even played all of the teams in its conference, yet I still am finding “expert” analysis from other Ancient Eight writers popping up on the Cornell Basketball Blog. Incorporate a few statistics, supplement them with several clichés, make some blanket statements about being ranked in the Top 25 and call it a day I guess. Read More
M. Basketball Dismantles Yale, Battles Brown for Win
February 8th, 2010This weekend’s matchups with Yale and Brown further proved that the Ivy League has no answer to No. 25 Cornell’s dominance. The Red sent the Bulldogs back to New Haven, tails between their legs, with a 90-71 victory on Friday. The next evening, Brown came to town, taking the full brunt of Newman Nation with a 74-60 loss. In these two games, as the Red took the court, there was a “David and Goliath” feeling in the air. Yale came into Friday’s matchup with a 2-2 record in Ancient Eight play, but was coming off a tough loss to Princeton. Read More

A Surprising Final Season Stretch for M. Hockey
February 8th, 2010After thousands of miles logged, hundreds of dollars spent on tickets, and many different couches, we sorrowfully approach the final regular season road weekend of our college careers. Between us, we have visited every ECAC Hockey rink multiple times while fitting in trips to Estero, Fla., and Grand Rapids, Mich. We were escorted by the police at Union College, received threats from grandparents at Quinnipiac University, ate deep fried calzones at St. Lawrence and saw Emma Watson at Brown. We tasted comeback victories in Albany and suffered humiliating losses at Bright Hockey Center (“Lynah East”) in Cambridge, Mass. Read More
Scrivens Posts Third Shutout of Season in Red Win
February 8th, 2010In some games, a normally empty sports cliché really rings true. After Friday’s 2-0 victory for the men’s hockey team, the old saying “a win’s a win” certainly came to mind. Despite being outshot, 32-16, Cornell prevailed over Quinnipiac on the back of a remarkable shutout performance by senior goalie Ben Scrivens. Read More
