Wittman Named Ivy Player of the Year; Foote, Dale Earn First-Team Selections
March 11th, 2010Now that the 2009-10 Ivy League season has come to a close, the time for awarding individual accolades has arrived. Senior forward Ryan Wittman was officially named Ivy League Player of the Year in a unanimous selection, while senior tri-captain Jeff Foote also received honors as the league’s best defensive player. Senior guard Louis Dale joined his teammates on the First-team All-Ivy squad, and sophomore guard Chris Wroblewski nabbed an honorable mention. Read More

March 11th, 2010I’ll be the first to admit, my talents in life are few and far between. However, one skill I seem to have mastered over the years, is an uncanny ability to make a drinking game out of just about anything. And yes, my parents are very proud.
That said, I present to you the March Madness Drinking Game: 2010 edition. Women’s Lacrosse Nets 14th Straight Win Over Lions
March 11th, 2010The weather in Ithaca cooperated just in time for the start of Ivy League competition on Cornell’s turf. In its first conference game of the season, yesterday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field, the women’s lacrosse team (2-2, 1-0 Ivy) defeated Columbia (2-1, 0-1 Ivy), 9-7, with the help of a six-goal outburst from sophomore attacker Jessi Steinberg.
The 14th straight victory over Columbia added to Cornell’s winning history against one of its toughest Ivy foes. While the final numbers of the mid-week Ivy opener seemed to indicate a close game, the Red was confident in its ability to pull out the win from the get-go. Cornell silenced Columbia’s roar with a three-goal run in the second stanza to ensure that the Red came away with the victory. Read More

Men’s Lacrosse Crushes Binghamton at Home
March 10th, 2010As local rival Binghamton came to Ithaca yesterday afternoon, the men’s lacrosse team was ready to take down the Bearcats (1-4) for the seventh time in seven opportunities. After a slow start in the first quarter, the No. 8 Red regained its momentum to take down Binghamton, 19-4, at Schoellkopf Field.
Equestrian Defeats Rival Skidmore for Second Consecutive Weekend
March 10th, 2010It’s payback time, Skidmore. After a long season of finishing just behind the twelve-time defending champions, Cornell Equestrian is finally getting its turn. This weekend at the Hartwick Invitational, Cornell beat the Thoroughbreds for the second weekend in a row, this time earning 42 points. Read More

Women’s Hockey Wins ECAC Championship Game Against Clarkson, 4-3
March 9th, 2010Less than eight minutes into overtime, senior co-captain Liz Zorn backhanded a pass from behind Clarkson’s net to sophomore forward Kendice Ogilvie, who flicked the puck over the shoulder of a sprawling Golden Knights’ goaltender, and just like that, the women’s hockey team’s dream season reached new heights with the program’s first ever ECAC Championship. Polo Teams Defeat Toronto Polo Club at Home
March 9th, 2010The men’s and women’s polo teams bounced back from losses against a very talented Toronto Polo Club last weekend at Oxley. This allowed for both teams to finish the regular season with victories and enter the Northeast Regional on the right track.
The men’s squad (11-4) came from behind to defeat Toronto 18-5 in a game where junior captain and leading scorer Max Constant did not participate because of an injury. On the other hand, the women’s side (13-1) closed the regular campaign with a 19-16 victory over Toronto after losing its first game of the season against Kentucky the week before.
