W. Icers Blank No. 2 Clarkson, Fall to St. Lawrence
November 16th, 2009The women’s hockey team split its two league games over the weekend at Lynah Rink –– shutting out the second-ranked team in the nation in the Clarkson Golden Knights before falling to the Saints of St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon, 3-2. Sophomore goaltender Amanda Mazzotta stopped all 33 shots Clarkson (12-2-1, 6-1 ECAC) threw at her Friday night and the Red killed off six power plays to beat ECAC leader Clarkson 2-0. The Red (5-3, 5-1 ECAC) then coughed up a 2-0 lead against St. Lawrence (6-4-4, 3-3-1 ECAC), allowing the Saints three straight goals and handing the Red its first league loss of the season. Bouraee’s Clutch Goal in OT Propels Red to First Ivy Win
November 16th, 2009Talk about saving the best for last. Playing in its final regular season game of 2009, the men’s soccer team notched its first Ivy League victory on Saturday against Columbia (4-12-1, 2-5 Ivy), thanks to senior Matt Bouraee’s game-winning goal in overtime. With the win, Cornell (6-6-5, 1-3-3 Ivy) finishes at .500 for the first time since 2001 –– the minimum requirement for becoming NCAA at-large bid eligible. Read More
Football’s Skid Hits Seven After Senior Day Loss
November 16th, 2009After erasing two early deficits and entering halftime with a 20-16 advantage, it appeared Cornell was going to send its 16-member senior class out on a high note Saturday afternoon in its final game at Schoellkopf Field. A 19-yard scamper into the end zone by Columbia’s senior quarterback, M.A. Olawale, with 1:51 left in regulation cemented a 30-20 road victory for the Lions. However, it was the six interceptions suffered by Cornell quarterbacks on the afternoon that sealed the Red’s fate. Read More
Cross Country Teams See Mixed Results at Regionals
November 16th, 2009Coming off of a solid performance at Heps at the end of October, the cross country teams headed to the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday. As the teams reflect on their performances, there are some mixed reviews: the men were able to secure seventh place, led by junior Nate Edelman with a time of 31:18 for ninth place overall in the field. The women performed in a similar fashion, placing sixth overall and led by senior Stephanie Pancoast, who put up a final time of 22:40 for 12th place overall in the field. Read More
Volleyball Closes Out Season With Two Road Losses
November 16th, 2009Home is where the heart is –– and for the volleyball team, it’s also where the wins were. With two losses this weekend on the road to finish up the season, the Red missed out on a road win during Ivy League play. M. Cagers Open Season in Alabama
November 13th, 2009The men’s basketball team is headed to Alabama to open the 2009-10 season. High expectations accompany a Red squad that some expect to have a year for the ages in the Ivy League. Although Cornell’s roster is loaded by Ivy League standards, a season-opening matchup against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference will provide an early measuring stick by which to gauge the team. Last Kickoff At Schoellkopf For Seniors
November 13th, 2009After opening the season with two straight victories, the Red has dropped each of its last six games. The Red’s best remaining chance to earn a victory will come tomorrow, when Cornell hosts the Columbia Lions. November 13th, 2009The women’s hockey team, fresh off of four straight wins versus ECAC Hockey opponents, faces another test this weekend when league foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence come to town. The Red (4-2-0 overall, 4-0-0 ECACH) will play Clarkson (11-1-1, 5-0-0) tonight at 7 p.m. at Lynah Rink. The Golden Knights are currently first in the ECACH and rank No. 2 nationally. Read More
