Tennis Successful at Respective Invites
Men pick up two singles titles at Princeton; women carry one at C.U.
September 21, 2009 - 11:00pm
Simply B-eautiful: Junior Andy Gauthier, consistently a top performer for the Red, took the Flight B singles title at Princeton.
The women, who are rebounding from a tough spring season in 2009, are hoping to improve their standing going into next semester’s team season. Ordaway’s victory this weekend will give her a shot at the No. 1 singles spot as the season continues. Susan Sullivan took the Flight B title by bageling St. Bonaventure.
The team is showing promise in its first official matches of the fall season.
The women will head to the Army Invitational at West Point next weekend.
The team will face tougher competition at West Point than they did this weekend, but is hoping to continue the momentum of its strong home victory.
Gauthier, typically known for his success in doubles with junior Jeremy Feldman, pushed past Haig Schneiderman of Columbia to take the B Flight singles title.
The duo fell in the final of the A Flight of the doubles draw at Princeton to a strong Penn State team. Gauthier’s victory in the singles against Columbia will be an important victory as the Red enters the team season, however.
Defending champion Columbia will be the Red’s biggest competition in the spring. The team is hoping to pick up as many victories against the Lions during the individual season as it can before it faces them during the season.
The men move on to the College Invitational next weekend.
