Men’s Hockey Takes the Ice At Red-White Practice
October 16, 2009 - 2:30amThe football team won’t be the only Cornell team in the spotlight tomorrow for Homecoming. Returning alumni will also have the chance to get a sneak preview of the men’s hockey team at the squad’s Red-White scrimmage. The team didn’t play a Red-White game last year, the last one was in 2007.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in Lynah Rink. In addition to the scrimmage, spectators can watch the team work on various technical aspects of the game like penalty shots and power-play drills.
In league preseason media and coaches’ polls, the men’s hockey team was picked to finish second in the ECAC Hockey league, behind last year’s champion Yale. The Red returns a strong cadre of upperclassmen, but lost some key pieces to graduation. The team will need scoring from all over the roster to complement the offense of senior captain Colin Greening and junior co-alternate captain Riley Nash, both forwards.
On defense, the Red returns five players from last season, including seniors Brendon Nash and Justin Kreuger, and adds three talented freshmen. Senior goalie Ben Scrivens should be a stalwart presence between the pipes.
