Golf Takes Seventh at Towson

The golf team continued its recent success with a seventh-place finish at the Towson Lacrosse Invitational this past weekend. Leading the Red was freshman Robert Cronheim with a ninth-place finish and junior Bret Perry with a 20th-place finish.

Polo Prepares for Nationals

As Cornell students try to get through another round of monotonous lectures, unfulfilling problem sets and sub-par Ithaca weather this week, the members of the men’s and women’s Polo teams will be facing some special challenges of their own. The two teams ventured down to the Bluegrass State for the prestigious USPA National Intercollegiate Polo championships will be held over the course of the week. The men and women are set to compete in their first-round matches at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, in the brand new Kentucky Horse Park Arena in Lexington, Ky.

Gymnastics Earns Fourth

This weekend the gymnastics team hosted the ECAC championships and finished fourth with a team score of 190.100.

Although defending champion Towson reclaimed its title with a team score of 193.650, the Red placed three players in the top-7 of the beam competition — including the individual champion, sophomore Stacey O’Hara.

Softball Wins Three Of Four on Weekend

Before the MLB season got underway, the softball team opened its Ivy League schedule with games against Yale and Brown. The Red defeated the Bulldogs in both games of a Saturday doubleheader before splitting games against Brown yesterday.

Both Crews Drop First Race

The strong headwind and choppy waters were not the only forces against the Cornell crews on Saturday morning at Cayuga Inlet, as the men’s heavyweight, men’s lightweight and women’s varsity eights each dropped their first regatta of the spring season.

Tennis Splits Ivy Openers

The men’s and women’s tennis teams opened up Ivy League play this past weekend, as the women beat Columbia, 6-1, and lost to the Lions, 5-2.

“The nationally-ranked Big Red proved too much for the Lions,” the Columbia website accurately conceded.

Princeton Downs W. Lax

Cornell picked one of the nicest days of the year so far for a rather ugly women’s lacrosse game against Princeton on Saturday at Shoellkopf Field. The Tigers won easily, beating the Red, 18-9 in a sloppy contest for both teams.

Baseball Wins Two, Drops One

The baseball team opened its Ivy League season on a positive note this past weekend, splitting a Saturday doubleheader with Yale before scoring a narrow 2-1 victory over Brown yesterday. The second game against Brown was postponed due to rain, and will be played today at noon .

M. Lax Defeats Penn With Big Second Half

One day before the April showers rained down on Ithaca, the men’s lacrosse team rained goals on Penn all afternoon, picking up a 20-5 victory.

With the sun shining, the Red (7-0, 2-0 Ivy) got a chance to put on a show in front of its home crowd for basically the first time this season. Saturday marked Cornell’s first home game in over a month, and first home game where paltry crowd members didn’t have to dig their seats out of several feet of snow. Instead, a robust crowd of 4,268 fans cheered on the Red.

Men’s Basketball Joins ECAC, Gets Playoffs

The chances of the men’s basketball team making the NCAA Tournament will significantly increase by next season. This weekend, ECAC President Wayne Dean announced that the league will become a Division I basketball conference for the 2007-08 season.
