W. Track Wins Heps, Men Take Second

The men’s track team fell three points short of giving both the men’s and women’s sqauds a clean sweep in the Heps championships this past weekend. Held in New York City, the meet determined the best indoor track team in the Ivy League. The women dominated the competition, winning the title by scoring 159 points in the two-day meet, 88 points better than second-place Brown. Despite some great performances, especially from the jumps unit, the men were unable to grab its third consecutive title, falling to Princeton by a mere three points.

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. Needing a win and some help to guarantee a first-round bye, Cornell took to the ice Saturday night at Harvard in what seemed like a must-win game. Despite dropping a 3-1 decision to the Crimson, the Red, thanks to a Quinnipiac loss, stumbled into an all-important first-round bye accorded to the top-4 finishers in the ECACHL standings.

Red ends regular season on the road against Ivy foes

For college hockey prognosticators, the last weekend of the men’s hockey team’s regular season provides a mind-twisting set of possibilities. No. 16 Cornell, No. 20 Quinnipiac and Dartmouth are all fighting for third and fourth place in the ECACHL — spots that would guarantee a first-round bye in the league playoffs. In addition the Red, Green and Bulldogs are simultaneously chasing the Ivy League title — the winner or co-winners of which will be decided at the end of the weekend.

With Season Closing, Red Faces Key Games

Sitting two games back in the standings with just four to play, the men’s basketball team has its back against the wall. Facing road games against Yale and Brown this weekend, followed by a pair of home contests against Harvard and Dartmouth, the Red will have its work cut out for it to climb atop the league standing by season’s end.

Men's, Women's Tennis to Take on Army, Farleigh Dickinson

It’s going to be an action-packed weekend for Cornell tennis. The men have home-court advantage against Army and Fairleigh Dickinson at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at Reis Tennis Center tomorrow. The women will travel to West Point to take on Army at noon tomorrow and Temple at noon on Sunday.

W. Lacrosse Opens Season Against Rutgers

After a three-week preseason rife with freezing practices and chaotic scheduling, the women’s lacrosse team is more than ready to kick off the season at home against Rutgers tomorrow. Amidst mounds of melting snow, the Red will be working hard to try and show that it has the ability to meet and exceed the standard set by the 2006 squad.

M. Lax Begins Season at Home

For the seniors on the men’s lacrosse team, their first regular season game tomorrow has more significance than being the regular-season opener and an opportunity to get back onto the field after the Red’s loss to UMass in the first round of last year’s NCAA tournament. It will also be the last time that they play Binghamton, the team against which George Boiardi ’04 died during a game on March 17, 2004.

Gymnastics Squad Set for Ivy Classic

Throughout the season, gymnastics coach Paul Beckwith has been focused on improving and being in position to win a league title. Cornell has had Sunday’s Ivy championship circled on the calendar since it won the silver-plated trophy last February.

Track Squads Strive for History, Repeat Titles

Cornell’s track squads will travel to New York City this weekend for the indoor season’s Heps championships, aiming to once again win an event they have come to dominated in recent years.

The men’s team capped its regular season by having 28 players qualify for the ECAC Eastern Regional championships. This weekend, however, the Red must out-perform league rival Princeton to win its eighth title in nine years.

Riding in Chairlifts With Skiers

Few social situations are as awkward as the chairlift ride.

Even with friends, the bizarre act of getting on and off of a chairlift is enough to destroy any relationship. It’s kind of like having sex for the first time. If you don’t mess it up, it’s not very fun. If you do mess it up, someone will get hurt.
