Head coach Chris Kerber announced the addition of seven new rowers to the lightweight roster for the 2012-2013 season. Bringing years of experience, the Class of 2016 looks to be a promising addition to an already accomplished program.

“We're excited about our incoming freshman class,” Kerber said. “We feel they have the potential to make serious contributions to the program from the moment they set foot on campus.”

Joining the ranks are Paul Clauss, Marcelo Domeniconi, Nigel Harriman, Andy Kim, Will Oprea, Rob Oxer and Cameron Schultz.

Clauss comes to the Red from Christian Brothers Academy, where he competed with the crew team for four years. The 5-11 Middletown, N.J. native led his team to the 2011 scholastic national championship in the lightweight four and earned a second-place finish in the same event during his senior year.

Next on the list is Domeniconi, who competed for four years at Noble and Greenough School. The Massachusetts resident served as captain of the crew team as a senior.

Harriman joins the Red after lettering three times at Brookline High School, where he served as team captain as a senior and earned MVP honors as a sophomore. The 6-0 Massachusetts rower graduated holding the school record for the fastest lightweight 2K (6:24.9). Harriman was also a member of Community Rowing Incorporated. He rowed to a ninth place finish with the team at the 2012 USRowing Youth Nationals, as well as first at the 2011 USRowing Northeast Regionals in men’s lightweight eight, second at the 2011 USRowing Club Nationals in men’s pair and 11th at the 2011 USRowing Youth Nationals in men’s lightweight eight..

Kim comes to Cornell after being a two-time letterwinner at Jesuit College Prep. The 6-0 Texan won four regional and state championships.

Hailing from Hicksville, N.Y., Oprea was a five-time letterwinner at Chaminade High School. He won the 2012 NYS Rowing Championship and claimed the fastest men’s high school eight title at the 2011 Head of the Charles Regatta. The 6-2 rower also attended the 2011 USRowing Men’s Development Camp and the 2012 USRowing Junior Men’s Selection Sweep Camp.

Oxer also comes to the Red from Chaminade High School. The 5-11 Locust Valley, N.Y. resident won a NYS Championship and SRAA national championship as a junior in 2011.

Rounding out the bunch, Schultz was a three-time letterwinner at Westfield High School. The 6-1 Herndon, Va. rower served as captain during his senior year and led the crew to a runner-up finish for the 2011 Virginia state title. Exhibiting athletic prowess outside the boathouse, Schultz also lettered once in cross country.

The Red will begin its fall campaign on Oct. 13 when the team travels to nearby Rochester for the Head of Genessee regatta, before continuing on to Boston, Mass. for the famous Head of the Charles regatta one week later.
