M. Icers Battle Back for Split at North Dakota
Senior co-captain Michael Kennedy (18) notched points in both of the Red’s games at North Dakota over Thanksgiving break, tallying a goal in the Game 2 win. A recent trend for the men’s hockey team has been to give up a few too many goals in highly-anticipated non-conference contests over Thanksgiving break, as the Red fell to Boston University in Madison Square Garden last year, 6-3. At unranked North Dakota this break, No. 12 Cornell suffered another Thanksgiving rout on Friday, 7-3, but came back to win the next day, 2-1. The adjustment, however, came after the Red (5-1-2, 4-0-2 ECAC Hockey) took its first loss of the year in Game 1, which was broadcast nationally on the NHL Network. Read More

A Close Reading
December 1st, 2008Last week, Professor and former University President Hunter Rawlings gave his hypothetical “Last Lecture” to a packed auditorium. He began his talk by setting the historical stage: It’s 1968 and the Vietnam War is raging. Rawlings is a graduate student of classical philosophy at Princeton. And his disillusionment is palpable. “I had a very hard time,” Rawlings said, “seeing what my studies had to do with what I was seeing every day around me.” Read More

He may have been living there for a few days behind movable bookshelves. Read More

December 1st, 2008My recent trip to Iran as part of an academic delegation has confirmed my belief that while tensions abound in our world, “people-to-people” exchange is ever more important. Our world is polarized along lines drawn by our race, ethnicity, religious convictions, politics, gender, sexual orientation and many other attributes. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the current tensions defined by the intersection of the Judeo-Christian and Islamic worlds. The events of last week in India are just the most recent manifestations of these tensions. How to respond to this polarization? Read More

Student Artist Spotlight: James Orlando
December 1st, 2008It’s rare to find a student so passionate about his field that he started their career before coming to Cornell, but that is exactly what senior James Orlando did. Instead of coming to Cornell to figure out what he wanted to do with his life, he came to Cornell to perfect what he was already good at: photography. He also happens to have the perfect name for a photographer. Read More

Why Your Vote Counted More Than You Think
November 25th, 2008Election Day is almost a month behind us and a healthy majority of the country has been celebrating the victory of President-Elect Barack Obama. Though a large number of people went to the polls November 4th, many still did not. For those Cornell students who used the excuse "my vote doesn't count in liberal Ithaca, New York" — you were wrong. Alma Aldrich tells us why. Read More
