The New York Federation said it was “happy to report” that a majority of new leadership supported reinstating the Cornellians.
Cornell Democrats’ leadership said that those who cannot see the differences between Clinton and Trump “are either not watching the race enough or are willfully choosing to ignore the canyon between them.”
The club may be unable to operate normally or even retain its name, which could severely impact recruitment and funding.
“Mr. Trump should not be the face of American conservatism,” the club’s statement reads, proceeding to call Johnson a “true conservative.”
“The Cornell Democrats strongly support Hillary Clinton and we will be working hard to elect her in November,” said Cornell Democrats President Kevin Kowalewski ’17.
Looking ahead to the general election, club representatives voiced enthusiasm about the diversity of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s platform, and warned of the abnormality and danger of a Donald Trump presidency.
Senior First Vice Chair Austin McLaughlin ’18 and First Vice Chair Irvin McCullough ’18 found the law and order theme problematic, citing concerns about the message’s racial undertones and hints of authoritarianism.
