A New York appellate court halted Governor Andrew Cuomo’s (D-N.Y.) ban on flavored e-cigarettes on Thursday, temporarily enjoining its enforcement. The ban, originally scheduled to take effect on Oct. 4, is now paused until the New York State Supreme Court hands down a decision.
In Fall 2018, 25 percent of Cornell undergraduates reported using e-cigarettes in their lifetime, up from 14 percent in the Fall of 2015, according to Cornell Health. Additionally, 10 percent of all first year students in Fall 2018 reported using an e-cigarette in the two weeks leading up to move-in.
Smoking is cool again. Who would have thought? Just when many thought smoking was on the decline, with stomach-churning advertisements of charred lungs on public television and the preeminence of smoke-free environments, an alternative form of nicotine delivery is gaining popularity: high-tech e-cigarettes. One of the most popular of these is the JUUL, which accounts for 32 percent of the U.S. e-cigarette market share. The JUUL is about one-fifth the size of an iPhone and uses patented nicotine juice cartridges, called JUULpods.
