President Trump’s executive order issued June 22 is the latest in a series of moves the Trump administration has made to curb immigration — drawing concerns among international communities who look to the futures they have been establishing for themselves, susceptible to curveballs and further restrictions.
As many people yearn to return to some form of normalcy, states are beginning to consider what the reopening of nonessential businesses should look like. In his daily press briefing Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said a crucial first step for reopening is widespread COVID-19 testing — which New York State currently lacks.
On that same day, Dr. Augustine M.K. Choi, Weill Cornell Dean, announced a new initiative to begin antibody testing employees of Weill Cornell.
“We’re already gonna be strapped for trying to make bills and stuff because everybody’s afraid to go out,” said Spike Brooks, a bartender at The Chanticleer.
Last Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order stating that colleges and universities receiving federal research funding and education grants must uphold free speech or risk losing their funding.
The Cornell Latin American Student’s Society addressed the ramifications of President Donald Trump’s executive order regarding immigration and Trump’s long held promise of mass deportation in a lecture on Wednesday evening in Mann Library.

Cornell professors and faculty are pleased with Interim Pres. Hunter Rawlings’ statement, but want concrete action plans to ensure the safety of student immigrants.
Rawlings’ message to the Cornell community comes in light of other universities such as the University of Michigan and Harvard University, issuing similar statements to their students.
