The Department of Entomology hosted Insectapalooza for its 20th year, providing an opportunity for individuals of all ages to engage in bug education and enjoyment.
On Oct. 22, the Cornell Department of Entomology hosted Insectapalooza in Stocking Hall after postponing the event due to COVID restrictions.
It’s Good to Bee Back” was the apt theme for this year’s annual one-day insect festival, which returned this October after a two-year hiatus. The event was well-attended by both Ithaca locals and Cornell students and faculty and featured interactive booths and workshops aimed towards sharing the entomological sciences with the community.
Cornell’s “Insectapalooza,” one of the largest events of its kind, will once again buzz and crawl with excitement this Saturday at 9 a.m.
Science outreach is a form of civic activism that is meant to inspire children and young adults to pursue their science-related interests.
Nine-year-old Jack Healy who visited with his family from New Jersey, proclaimed, “I thought it was really awesome.”
Degner said the two most popular exhibits were the butterfly room and the arthropod zoo, calling their subjects “big and charismatic insects.” He added that the department doubled the amount of butterflies in the butterfly room this year.
