Ithaca Chowder Cook-Off Celebrates its 13th Anniversary

The “KIDNAPPED” posters affixed to poles and utility boxes on the Ithaca Commons have been removed after they were vandalized with anti-Israel graffiti, including one that said “Israel is Hitler.”
After 35 years of operating Lou’s Street Food, Lou Cassaniti said that he plans to retire at the end of 2024.
“Every single one of you today is here because of your hope and your love which is your fuel,” she said. “So please, in your hearts, remember the love that you’re feeling and the desire for unity and the desire for peace and know that you have a place.”
Last weekend, hundreds flooded the streets of downtown Ithaca for the second annual Wizarding Weekend, a four-day celebration of J. K. Rowling’s phenomenon, Harry Potter.
At approximately 6:54 p.m., victim said she was struck from behind in the head by an unknown person. After she fell to the ground, the attacker continued to hit her in the face and attempted to steal her purse, an Ithaca Police Department release said.
Co-owners Sarah Jefferis and Tammy Travis were unable to be reached for comment and did not want to speak to the press. They announced the upcoming closure on the shop’s Facebook page Sept. 12, but did not give a reason for the business’s departure.
Fabrizio proposed the event last winter to the Downtown Ithaca Alliance which, she said, “embraced it enthusiastically.”
“We want Simeon’s to be a destination,” said owner Dean Zervos. “We hope that our restaurant will become a reason for people to travel to downtown Ithaca.”
