Cornell claimed its first outright Ivy League title after a perfect 7-0 slate of Ivy League play and a conference-best 26-4 regular season dual match record.
“Tulsa is a very good team and they came in incredibly hungry — they gave us their absolute best, but I think that our guys competed so well,” said head coach Silviu Tanasoiu.
“We have one of the toughest schedules we have ever had.” Tanasoiu said. “But we have an incredible group of guys who are capable of doing some great things this season. We have a chance to do some great things and compete with some of the best teams in the nation.”
Despite playing for the first time in two weeks, the Red posted several impressive wins.
Facing a variety of opponents, the Red fared well at the Dartmouth Invitational, adding another strong performance to its fall resume.
Junior Eero Vasa wasn’t at any ordinary college tennis match last weekend — he was surrounded by some of the world’s most talented young tennis players.
“I would love to help lead the team to an Ivy League Title and make the NCAA tournament. We came extremely close last season and saw a little glimpse of what we’re capable of, so I think we’re all hungry for more this time around.”
“I think the outcome was heartbreaking — we were a few points away from winning the title and beating a team ranked 16th in the country at their place,” Tanasoiu said. “We came about as close as you can come to winning. We are not happy with the outcome, but I am personally proud with how we fought and how the guys competed.”
“We put ourselves in a position to win the match — we were leading the match 3-1 and leading in one of the matches,” head coach Silviu Tanasoiu said. “Unfortunately we were not able to play the key moments like we should have, we played defensively, which really cost us against Harvard.”
“We made a step forward this weekend,” Tanasoiu said. “We are heading in the right direction with all of our doubles pairs. We are getting to know each other better and execute better as partners.”
