The startling pictures of naked prisoners piled on top of one another at Abu Ghraib prison was a frequently seen image on the news. After investigation, seven soldiers and two officers were convicted on charges of cruel and abusive interrogation techniques. While pictures provide visible evidence of these allegations, it remains unclear as to who, if anyone, ordered this type of unlawful behavior. However, the recent release of memos ordering harsh interrogation techniques by former President Bush shed light onto the reality of the situation.
Society teaches us that science has no limits; that you and I can be whatever we want to be, do whatever we want to do, and that scientists are nothing but an utter bouquet of bright minds moving from grass to grace, sharing their knowledge with all and sundry, passing on the ‘Universalistic’ torch inscribed with the message: all is possible in the name of science.
This week Pakistan’s military began operations to retake the strategic Buner district back from the Taliban. Last week, Buner had fallen to the Taliban as the movement expanded its reach beyond the Swat Valley, where the government had recognized its more or less defacto control by agreeing to the imposition of the Taliban’s particularly conservative interpretation of Sharia law.
If you wander the arts quad today, you'll see the patch of grass to the left of A.D. White covered in small flags. The display was created in remembrance of the Holocaust, with each flag representing 4,000 killed through the genocide. The flags are not only in memorial of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust, but also in memory of any minorities that suffered at the hands of the Nazis, including homosexuals and mentally challenged. Each group is represented by a different colored flag (e.g. Yellow flags represent Jewish victims)
The sweet taste of chocolate is something we probably all enjoy once in awhile, but chocolate is the cause of cruel and abusive treatment to one of the world’s most vulnerable populations. While child labor has been around since the dawn of civilization, the use of young labor is becoming an increasing problem in countries that harvest cocoa.

Kip Berman, lead vocalist and guitarist, spoke to Sun Staff writer Will Cordeiro about his influences and aspirations. Will Cordeiro is also the Artist at Residence at Risley Hall and was involved in booking the band for the event.
