Sunday night’s Furthur concert in Barton Hall, which attracted Deadheads from around the country, resulted in an unusually high number of drug and alcohol related arrests.

Cornell’s annual Dragon Day festivities started off well this year. But shortly after the parade — as I sat handcuffed to a wall in the Barton Police station — I knew that something had gone terribly wrong.

As a fourth-year architecture student and campus tour guide, I know the importance of Dragon Day as a longstanding Cornell tradition. The event serves as an expression of school spirit, a celebration of spring, and a rite of passage within the school of architecture.

The recent arrests of three local men associated with a cocaine-trafficking ring will make a “significant dent” on the drug trade in Tompkins County, District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson told The Ithaca Journal last Tuesday. Curtis Echols of Rochester, said to be the ring’s leader, along with his sons, Curtis McCool and Darrell L. Bailey, have been charged on about 30 counts of drug trafficking.

According to The Journal, Echols allegedly distributed cocaine to both Bailey and McCool, in addition to Kelly Keefe, an Ithaca resident who was arrested on charges of alleged ties to a cocaine ring two weeks ago.

ATLANTA (AP) — Grammy-winning rapper T.I. was arrested Saturday — just hours before he was to take the stage at the BET Hip-Hop Awards — in a shopping center parking lot where federal officials said he planned to pick up machine guns and silencers he had his bodyguard buy for him.

The arrest resulted from an investigation that began this month when a federal firearms dealer contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about a man inquiring about buying a machine gun without registering the weapon as required, according to a criminal complaint filed Saturday in U.S. District Court in Atlanta.
