I consider myself a pretty accepting person, but it was shocking that this sort of behavior was tolerated by Cornell authorities. I figure I should do some wiki-stalking before I spent a night surrounded by supposed sexual deviants. Here’s what I discover:

It was move-in day and he was a 30-minute walk from Central Campus. His window opened up into a cement wall. His room was located one floor below ground level. Living in the basement of graduate housing was not what Kyle Doebler ’10 was expecting when he transferred to Cornell from East Stroudsburg University.

Technically, Schuyler House, where Doebler lives, is “on-campus housing” because it is owned by Cornell, although it is located just beyond lower Collegetown. The closest dining hall where he can use his meal plan is on West Campus.

Like most other transfer students, Doebler submitted his housing application in June before the July 1 deadline. But unlike the other transfers, Doebler is living with graduate students.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A massive foreclosure rescue bill overwhelmingly cleared a key Senate test Tuesday, drawing broad support from Democrats and Republicans alike.

The Senate voted 83-9 to speed up work on the $300 billion mortgage aid plan, putting it on track for a final vote as early as the end of the day.

The resounding vote reflected a keen interest in both parties in claiming election-year credit for helping homeowners amid tough economic times.

Still, the measure faces a veto threat from President Bush and disputes among Democrats about key details. Those challenges will probably delay any final deal until mid-July.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police used chemical spray and stun guns Thursday as dozens of protesters tried to force their way into a packed City Council chamber during a debate on the planned demolition of some 4,500 public housing units.

One woman was sprayed with chemicals and dragged from the gates. She was taken away on a stretcher by emergency officials. Before that, the woman was seen pouring water from a bottle into her eyes and weeping.

Another woman said she was stunned by officers, and still had what appeared to be a Taser wire hanging from her shirt.

"I was just standing, trying to get into my City Council meeting," said the woman, Kim Ellis, who was taken away in an ambulance.
