The Beginning of the End of the Beginning
April 28, 2009 - 11:00pmToday marks the 100th day of President Barack Obama’s current term in office. News media hype aside, the President’s 100th day is an important milestone for the American public’s perception of the Executive Branch and has served as a definite marker for policymaking decisions since the times of FDR. The actions taken by the president within his first five months are indicative both of his priorities and of his leadership style. Most importantly, however, the 100th day unofficially cements the tone the president wishes to set throughout the remaining three-plus year in office.

Letting Us Down By Forgetting the Past
April 8, 2009 - 11:00pmPresident Obama has been jet-setting around the Middle East this week in an effort to convince Muslims that the United States doesn’t hate them. It’s no easy task, but, given his family background and reputation for reasoned rhetoric, he’s certainly the man for the job.
But there’s a problem. For all of Obama’s admirable accomplishments in foreign policy thus far, the man’s positions regarding torture and the legal framework of the War on Terror are nothing short of despicable. Maintaining the worst of Bush-era government secrecy and Big Brother intimidation techniques, our constitutional-scholar-in-chief has left many hopefully progressives scratching their heads.

To the Editor: Drug crusade utterly lunatic
April 6, 2009 - 11:00pmTo the Editor:
Re: “Relax, Mr. President, You’re Falling Out of Touch,” Opinion, April 3.
As one of the online audience, it behooves Obama to remember that the ONLY reason I voted for him was the fact that he promised “change.” I thought the “change” Obama promised would mean ending a lunatic drug crusade that Obama said was an “utter failure.” If Obama is going back on that promise myself a lot of others will no longer support him. The drug reform community represents a large segment of Obam’s support and he better not forget that. We were very active in getting him elected, but that will cease if he ignores our demand for a sane drug policy. Obama should never forget that drug prohibition has been a Republican policy since 1904 and they will never budge.

The Apolitical Pill
April 6, 2009 - 11:00pmBased on a federal court ruling last month, the age to obtain Plan B without a prescription will soon be lowered from 18 to 17 years old. The verdict was reached as the result of a lawsuit against the F.D.A., which stated that the previous policy was formed based on inappropriate concessions to conservative lobbyists in the Bush administration.
