How Cornellians Fared Tuesday

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner ’63 (D-Calif.) will not have a classmate joining him in the House in January.

Although Filner cruised to re-election in his solidly Democratic seat in San Diego Tuesday, Jane Amero ’63, a Republican state senator from Portland, Maine, failed in her attempt to defeat a Democratic incumbent in that state’s southern 1st District. She lost 60 percent to 36 percent.

The results were also mixed for another pair of federal office-seekers with ties to Cornell. Rep. Robert Andrews J.D. ’82 (D-N.J.) easily won a sixth House term, while Sen. Charles Robb (D-Va.), who briefly attended Cornell from 1957 to 1958, lost a difficult re-election bid.
