Yanni has always been dismissed as little more than new age schmaltz, elevator music without the excitement of the elevator. There’s a good reason: that’s really all it is.

The tracks on If I Could Tell You call on various musical elements, from the usual pianos to the percussion that makes “The Sacred Ground” sound like an outtake from the Survivor soundtrack. In order to make the album even more relaxing is the repeated use of sampled chants, which float softly over the instrumental.

While its definitely nothing ground-breaking, If I Could Tell You is a relaxing album, the oral equivalent of massage therapy, which isn’t a bad thing in this high stress exam time.
