Riders Show at Home

The Cornell equestrian team is home this weekend for its first show on East Hill this season.

The Red has had a strong season, placing in the top five in all of its shows. Recently, the Red placed fourth in its show at Hartwick, with Skidmore taking first place. Zoe Orecki, the high point rider in the region, had the strongest showing. Orecki placed first in her section of the Open Fences and the Open Flat divisions. The team also had good showings by Julie Canter and Kate Cornell in the Open Flat division, co-captain Brooke Hafets in the Open Fences division, and Jeanette Pettie in the Intermediate Fences division.

Coming into this week’s show, the Red has three of the four top riders in the region in Orecki, Canter and Cornell. Co-captain Brooke Hafets believes that having the home advantage for the show will make a big difference: “We have been preparing for months. We know the horses so I expect the team to do very well.”

The show is Sunday at the Oxley Equestrian Center.

Next Saturday the team will also be in action as it heads to defending regional champion Skidmore’s ring.
