Test Spins: Barenaked Ladies

Barenaked Ladies are back with their Greatest Hits, a collection of 17 previous recordings as well as two new tracks. Greatest Hits will appeal to the BNL admirer who does not have any of the group’s earlier albums. However, the collection will also interest avid fans due to the two new tracks, the presence of the obscure song “Get in Line,” and some live versions.

The new track “It’s Only Me” has a New Wave twist, but maintains the classic BNL mentality of catchy vocals, humor, and energetic instrumentation. The other new track, “Thanks That Was Fun,” highlights Ed Robertson’s ability to sing rich and emotional lyrics that are sure to get praise and send the girls swooning. Other tracks that make up the collection include “The Old Apartment,” a comical and appealing narrative about a man’s return to his previous place of residence, and radio hits like “Pinch Me” and “One Week.” This is by no means the last of BNL, but a great way to celebrate their successes from the past decade.
