Polo Hosts Purdue

The women riders hope to continue their winning ways tomorrow when they host the Lady Boilermakers of Purdue at Oxley Equestrian Center. Cornell returned from the break with decisive wins over relatively young squads from Stanford, Yale and Georgetown. In Purdue, the Red (12-1) will be faced with a slightly more skilled opponent, yet should again have no trouble in picking up the win.

“They’re a slightly tougher team, but we’ll win,” commented head coach David Eldredge ’81.

Last weekend, the riders routed Georgetown 27-0 behind an impressive third chukker by sophomore Molly Buck. Buck scored nine goals in her only chukker of action.

Senior All-American Melissa Riggs sat out the game, giving younger players a chance to see some action. Similarly, junior All-American Taylor McLean played only the second chukker.

Senior Liz Antczak is expected to join Riggs and McLean in the starting lineup tomorrow night.

After handling a tough Georgetown team by a score of 21-6 last week, the men’s polo team will be off this week. They return to action on Feb. 16 when they host arch-rival University of Virginia.
