Before The Strokes generated the single-greatest buzz of this century and became full-blown retro stars, they played the same New York art-rock scene, circa 1998, as Jonathan Fire Eater and The French Kicks. Well, things have changed (though not as severely as the weather in Ithaca this week).

Jonathan Fire Eater’s raw, bluesy sound lacked the post-punk coherence of The Strokes, and unlike their fellow scencesters, Fire Eater broke-up into obscurity.
