Playing on Par With the Boys

I wouldn’t consider myself a feminist. I know that may come as a shock, but I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately.

The whole Annika Sorenstam thing got me so excited, I wondered if my next step might be changing my major to women’s studies and cracking open a good Ann Douglas book.

In case you’ve been locked in a Cocktail Lounge study room for the last week, the “whole Annika Sorenstam thing” goes like this: She’s the best player ever in women’s golf and now she’s been invited to play in the men’s PGA Colonial tournament in May. Yesterday she RSVPed in the affirmative and free spirits everywhere rejoiced.

However, most people seem to be downplaying the moment.

Some have already begun to question whether it’s really that big of a deal because some woman once played in a men’s tournament
