Coming off a mediocre fall season, the equestrian team will travel to Skidmore tomorrow to take part in its first meet of the semester.
The last time the Red was in Skidmore, a single point kept it from taking home a first-place finish. Skidmore took the win in the last meeting between the two squads, and the Red will have to have a “good solid showing,” to come out on top in this meeting according to head coach Christopher Mitchell.
Leading the Red this weekend will be tri-captains junior Jeannette Pettit, and seniors Julie Canter and Kate Cornell. Pettit has already qualified for Regionals which is to take place at the end of March.
After a tough Fall semester, a top-10 ranking for the Spring has given the Red a boost of confidence.
“We had to cancel practice a few times because of the snow, but we are really looking to qualify at least one person [for Regionals] on Saturday,” Mitchell said.
The Red has been practicing for over a month now, gearing up for the meet that will set the pace for the rest of the season.
A new attitude has been put in effect for this season’s meets, and as for their competitors, Mitchell said, ” We’re back, don’t mess with us.”
