Jessica’s Buffalo Wings

You know you watch it. You know you love it. Newlyweds is one of the best rated shows on television. After a very successful season of the MTV reality show with her husband, Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson is getting a slew of offers to do endorsements and merchandising promotions. No word yet as to what she will be promoting. I have a hunch that it could be Buffalo wings. As you all know, Buffalo has become a very popular commodity in recent weeks as a result of Jessica’s mention of the large animal on the show. In fact, just the other day when I saw a Buffalo over on West campus, I thought to myself, I could really use some wings. She may also be doing promotions for chicken merchandisers; but of course only those who find their chicken in the sea.

Shows get the Ax

Television networks are starting to get a bit anxious about the new season this fall. While some shows are holding on for dear life, others have gotten bumped from the weekly line-up to the vast graveyard of cancelled television programs. NBC’s Whoopi and Happy Family as well as ABC’s four new shows It’s All Relative, I’m with Her, Hope & Faith, and Married to the Kellys have been told to keep pumping out scripts through the season; while CBS’s Brotherhood of Poland NH has gone bye-bye. I’m also happy to report to all you avid viewers out there that The O.C. has been renewed by Fox and is here to stay for now. Interestingly enough, two NBC programs whose premieres received the most press, Coupling and The Lyon’s Den have been benched for November sweeps. Rumor has it that Coupling, despite the network’s heavy hopes that it would eventually replace Friends, will be getting the ax from NBC due to poor ratings. The WB isn’t introducing a lot except for the much anticipated show Tarzan. No need for explanation as to why they believe that this show won’t have a problem getting viewers. Don’t worry, the men of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy aren’t going anywhere either, their salaries have just been raised to $8,000 an episode. On an exciting note for some people, The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will air November 19 including the likes of super models Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bundchen.

McCartney’s New Girl

Former Beatle Paul McCartney and wife Heather Mills are proud parents of a new baby girl. Mills delivered baby Beatrice last Tuesday at 8:45pm at the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth in London, weighing in at seven pounds. This is the first child for Mills, 35, but the fourth child for McCartney, 61 who has three adult children (including designer Stella McCartney) and one stepdaughter by his late wife Linda Eastman, who died of breast cancer in 1998. McCartney and Mills married in June 2002, and while they were doubtful that she would conceive because she had suffered cancer from two previous ectopic pregnancies, she conceived in May.

Indy Hits Big

The long awaited DVD collection The Adventures of Indiana Jones sold 1.1 million copies in its first week, making it the best selling DVD set of all time. Retailing for $46 each, the four-disc package, which debuted on October 21, sold an estimated 600,000 units within its first 24 hours, making about $28 million. Total receipts have already topped $50 million. The set includes interviews and deleted scenes, all of which will keep the fans busy until the fourth installment begins shooting sometime in 2004.
