CUPD Arrests Cornell Employee for Rape

According to the Cornell News Service, David A. Schlaegel has been charged with first degree rape. The Cornell directory lists Schlaegel as a facilities manager.

“These are serious and painful charges, and we must value the privacy of the individuals involved,” said Tommy Bruce, vice president of university communications, in a statement. “Cornell University is providing support to the victim, also a Cornell employee, and to others who have been affected by the alleged incident. Cornell has full confidence in the investigation being led by the Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office. We are providing our full cooperation.”

According to the release, Schlaegel has been remanded to the Tompkins County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond. The University has barred him from campus.
