DJ Shadow's The Outsider

Print More

The Outsider has everything that we’ve come to expect from Bay Area turntable artist Josh Davis, a.k.a. DJ Shadow: retro jazz-funk, club-worthy hip-hop, gangsta-rap, and ambient instrumental jams. This album even features an acoustic-rock ballad.
The Outsider doesn’t disappoint the Shadow legacy of excellent collaborations. Lateef the Truth Speaker (of Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, the Soleside Collective) shows up with Q-Tip in the one of the albums finest tracks, “Enuff”. Raised in Davis, CA, Shadow stays true to his Bay Area roots, working with a handful Bay Area hip-hop/hyphy movement artists, including E-40, Keak da Sneak, Turf Talk, Mistah Fab, and The Federation, among many others
What is the Outsider? “Part presence, part idea, they say, as if the very force they describe has existed for eons, a dormant seed awaiting nourishment.” You’ll want to listen to the “messages, dictations, warnings, stories” of The Outsider again and again.
