Crews Place at 'Cuse

The Cornell crews enjoyed a successful weekend at the Syracuse Invitational, bringing home one first-place finish and a trio of second-place and third-place finishes between the men’s lightweight, heavyweight and women’s crews.

The women fielded two novice eight boats, taking second and third in a field of 15. The home crew took first place with a time of 20:06.71, with the Red finishing right behind the Orange. The B boat crossed the line with a time of 20:48.93, while the A boat finished just under five seconds later.

In the men’s four race, the heavyweights claimed first place with the A boat coming in with a time of 17:45.41. The B, C and D heavyweight boats created a Cornell crowd in the top-10, finishing third, fourth and seventh, respectively. The lightweights’ four rounded out the Cornell showing with the A boat taking eighth place and the B boat coming in 15th out of a field of 17.

The Red’s four continued to dominate in the B Flight, as the lightweights’ C boat took second behind Syracuse. The heavyweights’ F boat came in fourth, while the lightweights took two more top-10 spots by placing their D boat seveth and their E boat eighth.

In the men’s freshman eight race, Cornell placed four boats in the top-6 out of a field of 14, although Hobart claimed blue-ribbon honors with a time of 17:29.80. The lightweights’ A boat took second, just eight seconds behind the winners, and the B heavyweight took third. The B lightweight boat and the A heavyweight boat finished the day for Cornell with fifth- and sixth-place showings, respectively.
