The City of Ithaca announced that the demolition of the Green Street Garage Bridge and helix is scheduled to begin on Friday. According to a press release, the contractor will begin demolition of the bridges on Friday evening and work continuously until the structures have been removed in order to minimize the inconvenience to the traveling public.

During the project, rubber mats and steel plates will be placed to protect the street surface while the concrete is broken into smaller pieces.
During the demolition, vehicular traffic will be detoured around the 100 block of East Green Street, and will be in effect starting 7 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. on Monday. Green Street traffic will be detoured to South Cayuga Street, East Clinton Street, Prospect Street and South Aurora Street.

The TCAT bus service will be temporarily relocated from Green Street to the 200 block of South Cayuga Street during the demolition period.
The City of Ithaca expects the project may draw spectators, and will establish a safe, spectator viewing area in the parking lot adjacent to the Tompkins County Public Library.
