After a season of many accolades and records for the men’s and women’s track teams, the Red were met with more yesterday as it found out that four of its competitors would get a chance to compete at the NCAA championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
On the men’s side, juniors Muhammad Halim and Rayon Taylor earned a spot after individual wins in separate events this year. Halim took the top spot in the triple jump at the indoor Heps with a jump that automatically qualified him for the NCAA championships, held at the University of Arkansas for the eighth straight year. Taylor earned the trip to the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center a week later by winning the triple jump at the IC4As. For both of them, it will be their first trip to the championships.
The women’s team will also send two competitors to the championships. Senior Sarah Wilfred will compete in the high jump and classmate Morgan Uceny will ply her trade in the 800. Both Uceny and Wilfred qualified automatically by winning their respective events at the indoor Heps championships.
This year’s event will mark as Uceny’s fourth overall trip to the NCAA championships, while serving as Wilfred’s second.
