The women’s soccer team split its two games this weekend, beating Hartford 1-0 at home on Friday evening and falling to St. Bonaventure 4-2 yesterday afternoon. The Red’s thrilling double-overtime victory over Hartford marked head coach Danielle LaRoche’s first career win as head coach.

By Zack Slabotsky September 10, 2007

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their respective seasons with dominating victories over Army on Saturday. The men prevailed 21-40 but were outdone by their female counterparts, who defeated Army by a margin of 18-43.

Freshman Kim Standridge led the women’s squad to victory and shattered a Cornell record in her first collegiate race, winning the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:36.6. Her time set a Cornell school record for the 5K Moakley Course layout, beating the previous mark by .3 seconds.

“I was surprised; I was totally surprised,” Standridge said.

The freshman credited teamwork as a factor in her strong performance.
