The Red earned its first season-opening sweep since the 1998-99 season with its two wins over Vermont this past weekend. In the first contest, the Red shutout Vermont, 3-0. The Red couldn’t keep the Catamounts off the board in the following contest but still managed to win, 4-2.
In the shutout victory, sophomore goalie Jenny Niesluchowski made all 36 saves. Freshman Rebecca Johnston scored the Red’s first goal of the season — and the first of her Cornell career — only 2:52 minutes into the game. Seniors Caeleigh Beerworth and Brianne Schmidt also notched goals in the contest.
