After opening the season with a pair of home victories against Vermont, the Red dropped two straight at Lynah this weekend to the Wayne State Warriors. Cornell fell victim to Wayne State’s efficient power play Friday night in a 4-1 defeat and suffered a heartbreaking, 5-4, overtime loss Saturday afternoon.
Cornell sophomore forward Liz Zorn opened the scoring Friday night, giving the Red a 1-0 advantage nearly eight minutes into the first period. However, the lead did not last long. Warriors’ junior forward Lindsay DiPietro knotted the game at 1-1 on a power play goal near the end of the first period after Cornell sophomore goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski was whistled for tripping.
