Smellerific: Heavy As It Goes

Print More

Though I know it’s not technically winter yet, by St. Louis standards, we’re getting there; it’s coming down fast but don’t let it break you. That’s what I’m here for. I cannot stress enough how important it is to wear fragrances that are in season. When I say “in season” I don’t mean you have to go out and buy Armani’s fall ’07 line (and please don’t). What I mean is when the weather drops below 50, hold the Polo Blue, pass on the Aqcua di Gio and please skip the Britney Spears perfumes, ladies.
From now on until I say so (and I will surely notify you when the time comes), follow the Four Fs: Re-Frain From Fresh Fragrances. Move into the heavier stuff. I’m talking sensuous woods, passionate vanilla, light spices and maybe even some patchouli. The entire Gucci male fragrance line is composed of wonderful scents for chilly weather; sniff away. As for girls, if you have to go with some florals, L’eau d’Hiver by Frederic Malle is worth the cost (if your boyfriend buys it). Transcendent Heliotrope sprinkled with Honey will cast you a pair of wings, a halo, and an irresistible angelic glow.
