Polo Squads Face Perennial Powerhouse, Rival Virginia

Coming off a 27-1 thrashing of Skidmore at the Oxley Equestrian Center last Saturday, the men’s polo team, will host highly-touted Virginia tomorrow night. Before that matchup, however, the women’s squad will also welcome Virginia to the East Hill.
The men’s squad (9-2), which hasn’t played a road game in two and a half months, fell to the Cavaliers every time it played them last year leading up to the National tournament. However, that changed when the two met in National semifinals. After closing the gap in each successive game, Cornell finally slipped by Virginia. That pattern has begun to take shape again this year as the Red lost by 18 to the Cavaliers in the two squad’s first matchup this year, and by 10 in their second tussle. The Red has all three of its starters, however — seniors Bobby Harvey and Rich Weidel and sophomore Max Constant — rested from the long winter break.
The undefeated women’s team (14-0) — featuring seniors Ari Constant, Emily Bold and Erin Bold and sophomore Lizzie Wisner — has shown itself to be one of the nation’s elite teams thus far. The Red knocked off the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va., 21-11, on Oct. 17 and thinks it can improve on that margin as the team was unhappy with how it played against UVA the first time. The Red has outscored its opponents 328-97 thus far this season and is primed to grab a No. 1 seed in the National tournament if it can continue its dominating play.
