The University announced yesterday that a public memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for David Yang ’11 who died in a car accident last week.
The service will be held at Anabel Taylor Hall Chapel, followed by a reception in the Founders Room of the same building.
Yang, who was a biological sciences major, transferred to Cornell from New York University during his sophomore year. Yang was the national chair of his fraternity, Lambda Phi Epsilon, a cultural chair on the executive board of the Chinese Students Association, and an active member of the Cornell Asian Pacific-Islander Students Union.
“David was one of those people that would lighten the atmosphere,” Kenneth Fujita ’12 told The Sun last week.
Yang was a prospective entrepreneur and had spent his summer interning in the finance department of Arbitrage Apparel in New York City.
He was killed on Aug. 23 near Springfield, Mo. when the car he was in was struck by a pickup truck. He was returning to New Jersey from Oklahoma with his girlfriend, who was driving at the time of the accident and suffered minor injuries.
A funeral service for Yang was held on Aug. 29 in his hometown of Hillsborough, N.J.
