Extra! Extra!: The Year in Review (An Audio-Visual Bonanza)

Print More

It’s Slope Day Eve. Students on East Hill giddily scurry from class to class, Drake steams toward campus in a tricked-out tour bus and professors hopelessly lecture in half-empty halls. And tomorrow afternoon that first note will blare out from the Libe Slope speakers and sweep over the drunken masses, unofficially declaring and end of this school year.

But before the revelry gets underway, it is time to take a look back at tumultuous year on the Hill. On the one hand there was the men’s basketball team’s improbable run to the Sweet 16, Bob Saget’s brief stay at Seal and Serpent and a multitude of awesome academic work (3D printer anyone?). But there were also budget cuts, allegations of discrimination, swine flu and, most tragically, six student suicides.

At the end of their tenure as Sun columnists, Julie Block, Andrew Daines and Munier Salem join Associate Editor Tony Manfred to talk about the stories and controversies that have defined their time in Ithaca. Part 1 (The Big Story)
