Bemusedly Awaiting Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor”

Print More

Tomorrow is Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor 8/28” rally. Beck, who’s insisted on his Fox News broadcasts that the event will be “a-political,” just so happens to have picked the anniversary and location (the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.) of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. He, Sarah Palin, and others will speak to Tea Party virtues at an event that, if nothing else, is sure to demand a new legion of generic portmanteaux: “politico-tainment,” “discursovangelism,” “reductio-ad-founderum,” etc.

The Cornell Daily Sun will, bemusedly, and possibly against its better judgment, be on hand. The attendees are sure to be as worthy of attention as the headliners; your reporter is eager to leave The City that Reality Forgot and witness the crush of the fabled “Real America” descend on what is surely the epicenter of Fake America. Posts of increasingly-epic weirdness to follow.
