The Executive Committee of the Cornell Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Michael Johnson, dean of the School of Hotel Administration, to a second-five year term last Thursday.

Johnson has been instrumental in hiring new faculty, improving the school’s marketability and fostering a more global presence that encourages international exchange and partnerships.

“I am looking forward to continuing to build our excellent faculty, expanding learning opportunities for student across Cornell, serving the world’s largest and most dynamic industry, and building our global platform,” Johnson said in a press statement.

Provost Kent Fuchs, who recommended Johnson to the Cornell Board of Trustees for a second term, only had praise for Johnson.

“During his first term, the school has enhanced its excellence on a number of fronts, including its commitment to producing scholarship relevant to the hospitality industry and beyond,” Fuchs said in a press statement.

Johnson’s first term will end on June 30, 2011 and his second will conclude on June 30, 2016.
