Authorities say they’ve charged a 26-year-old man with fatally shooting another man at the 301 Maple Ave. apartment complex.
Tompkins County Sheriff Peter Meskill says Corbin Whyte of the city of Ithaca is accused of killing 47-year-old Paul Garcia early Tuesday. He was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with second-degree murder.
Meskill says deputies responding to a reported shooting found Garcia dead in the parking of an apartment complex in the town of Ithaca. Authorities say Garcia was from the New York City area, but they haven’t provided a hometown yet.
Meskill says Whyte is being held in jail without bail pending a Wednesday afternoon court appearance. He doesn’t have a lawyer yet.
The sheriff says investigators are still looking into what led to the shooting.
