GYMNASTICS | Gymnastics Team to Face Cortland in Away Meet

Print More

After two weekends playing top competition and producing decent results, the Red is hoping for a breakout victory in this weekend’s contest with nearby rival Cortland.  At last weekend’s Penn State Invitational, the Red faced tough competition and finished in last place but had a respectable score within .05 points of the tournament average.

In the season-opening George Washington University Invitational, the Red finished fourth in a field of six quality opponnents — just .075 points out of third place. Cortland should not pose as hard a challange as what the Red has faced thus far, seeing as Cornell easily defeated the Red Dragons last year and leads the all-time series 39-7.

The Red’s confidence should be high coming into this weekend’s meet — though not just  due to Cortland’s expected level of competition.  Cornell has seen standout performances from its gymnasts thus far and is hoping for even better results in the future.   Senior Melanie Standridge has given solid performances on the balance beam, finishing in third place with a 9.875 at last weekend’s tournament and coming out first in a large field of 36 in the opening contest.
