Despite Reports, Fraternities Will Remain on Campus

Contrary to media reports, the Sigma Chi and Phi Sigma Kappa fraternities will not be kicked off campus, according to Travis Apgar, associate dean of students in the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs.

On Thursday night, the blog IvyGate published a story quoting a “well-placed tipster” who said the fraternities would be suspended for violating the University’s pledging policy. Apgar, however, said that the story was not true.

“Not that I’m aware of,” Apgar said when asked whether the fraternities would be suspended. “They are not having their recognition revoked.”

Apgar acknowledged that the fraternities are being reviewed by the Greek Judicial Board for continuing pledging activities beyond the initiation deadline, “but that’s been dealt with,” he said.

“Their recognition is not in jeopardy,” he said.
