A Cornell freshman was hospitalized early Friday morning after he lost control of his skateboard and collided with a garbage truck on Thurston Avenue, according to police.

Justin Khalil ’16 ran through a stop sign before striking, and sliding under, the truck, the Ithaca Police Department said.

Khalil suffered injuries to his legs, but was responsive when medical personnel arrived on the scene. He has since been transported by Bangs Ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., according to IPD.

“The investigation is being led by the Ithaca Police Department … and charges are pending,” the statement, released by city clerk Julie Holcomb, said.
