A woman was rescued Monday afternoon after falling down a waterfall in Newfield, N.Y., according to the Ithaca Fire Department.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday, the Tompkins County Dispatch received a call reporting that a woman had fallen down a waterfall near 181 Newfield Depot Rd., suffering leg and back injuries, according to IFD. The woman was conscious, but unable to move.
Fifteen firefighters from Newfield and Ithaca set up a rope system and removed the woman from the creek. The joint efforts took the team about 45 minutes.
The woman was then transported to the Cayuga Medical Center for treatment, according to the IFD.
In a statement Monday, IFD reminded the community to stay out of restricted spaces and to swim only in designated areas.
