A Syracuse man allegedly caught stealing a television from a Collegetown apartment early Sunday morning has been arrested by Ithaca police.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, a resident at 114 Stewart Ave. reported seeing an unknown male carrying out a burglary in the apartment, according to the Ithaca Police Department. While Cornell and Ithaca police investigated, they received a second report of a burglary — one that occurred just a few houses down the street from the first incident. The resident at the second apartment told police he had just confronted an unknown male who stole a television and ran off.

Police found both the stolen television and a man matching the two residents’ descriptions of the burglar on Seneca Street, which intersects Stewart Avenue. Eric E. Russell, a 29-year-old Syracuse resident, was charged with burglary in the second degree, petit larceny and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

Russell may face additional charges depending on the results of an ongoing investigation, according to the Ithaca Police Department.
