Updated Tuesday afternoon with information about the suspect

Ithaca Police are searching for an “armed and dangerous” man who they say may have shot a 21-year-old man in the groin and buttocks Monday evening.

The suspect is an 18-year-old black male who is 6’0″ tall, 185 pounds and goes by the alias “Biggum.” Police think the suspect may have been the shooter who left a 21-year-old man injured and lying on the ground at South Plain Street Monday evening.

Police initially responded to reports saying there had been gunshots fired near the 400 block of West Green Street. At around 7:04 p.m., police found the victim, conscious, lying on South Plain Street with a gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Ithaca Police Department.

The victim did not provide any information to police, but IPD believes he may have been arguing with another male subject prior to being shot. The victim was transported to a trauma center, where he had to undergo surgery, according to the IPD.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident. The IPD asks anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact police.
