It’s hockey time again. Last Saturday at Lynah, the men’s squad mixed it up in the annual Red-White scrimmage, which served as a tuneup for this weekend’s exhibition match against Canadian competitor York (3-0, 3-0 OUA).

The White team prevailed 5-2 in the Red-White intrasquad contest, which included alternating rotations of players from the men’s and women’s teams. The game was divided into two 30-minute halves with power plays given at set times during the night. Any regular penalties during the course of play resulted in an automatic penalty shot, the first of which was taken by freshman defenseman Clint Lewis.

Lewis capitalized on his scoring opportunity, lifting the puck over senior goaltender Andy Iles’ glove to give the Red team a 1-0 advantage. From there, the women took the spotlight with a total of three goals from junior forward Jillian Saulnier, two coming on penalty shots, to give White a 4-1 lead through the end of the second half.

The game culminated in a shootout period, which included three men’s and three women’s players from each side. Senior forward Rodger Craig notched a shootout goal for the Red team to cut the deficit to 4-2, but senior forward Armand de Swardt struck
